Plant a Tree… For Tomorrow

“A man has made at least a start on discovering the meaning of human life when he plants shade trees under which he knows full well he will never sit.”  D. Elton Trueblood

At our new home, my husband and I recently planted two young trees. One is a Flowering Crab apple placed to the east of the patio, the other, a Sawtooth Oak placed to the south of our house. When we stopped in at the nursery, we examined the trees that were available, taking into consideration the planting location, the growth characteristics and the full height of the mature tree.  After a bit of arguing discussion, we settled on those two species, confident that we had made the best choice. Then we looked at each other and laughed… we’ll most likely not be the ones who enjoy the full-blown mature shade of these trees.  But we do it anyway, because we know that what we do now isn’t just for us–for the here and now– but for the enjoyment and good of those who will live here after we are gone.

J.R.LIGGETT’S embraces this philosophy–this idea of we do what is right for the world now— because of the repercussions that will play out in the future.  His all-natural shampoo bar made with healthy, formula-specific vegetable-based oils, pure, clean, clear New Hampshire spring water, no animal by-products, no animal testing, no preservatives, and no strange, unpronounceable chemicals. 100% bio-degradable,  it simply will not harm the fish in the streams, and even the bar wrapper is 100% plant-based bio-degradable.  No waste with this bar… no liquid to run down the drain, no liquid to spill, and no plastic bottle to add to the landfill.  The shampoo works into a luxurious lather, yet rinses out clean and easily… uses less of the earth’s precious water!  Your hair is fresh and clean with body and manageability.  Made in the USA, all for you– but at the same time, for the future.  J.R.LIGGETT’S Shampoo Bar is the “shade tree” that’s planted now, with tomorrow in mind.

And just like our current United States Olympians, J.R. has applied hard work, dedication, technique, strategy and focus, resulting in a great product that we all can partake of and be in the presence of something bigger than ourselves.  Together, we can win this… together, we can come out on top of the game.

Join in with J.R.LIGGETT’S to make a difference for the future–for the world!

Sun Damage? J.R.LIGGETT’S To the Rescue!

Planet Sun… registering in at a bizillion degrees and that’s how hot it feels here in the Midwest. We love the sun for growing good things, all that natural light we crave, a must for summer activities, but wow, it is scorching outside!

Too much of a good thing finds us searching for relief.  We head for the cool waters of a pool, lake, ocean, or even a backyard sprinkler.  A comfy chair in the shade, a light breeze through the trees, or head inside to rest in the AC and sip a refreshing beverage– we’re going to do just about anything to get through this heat during the summer of 2012.

If the sun has a done number on your skin and hair, J.R.LIGGETT’S to the rescue!  J.R.LIGGETT’S Damaged Hair Formula Shampoo Bar is specially formulated for hair that has suffered from chlorine (“swimmer’s hair”), sun damage, color treatments, and chemicals.  Containing soothing and moisturizing Vitamin E, Aloe Vera, and Almond Oil, this is your go-to shampoo to restore that soft, smooth, silky texture to your hair. And remember, not only soothing to your sun-damaged hair and scalp, but terrific for the rest of your body–take a look at the ingredients–all those yummy oils for your sun burned skin to drink up and speed healing!  No matter what type of J.R.LIGGETT’S shampoo bar I use on my hair, I use it for the rest of my skin also. That’s one of the cool things about the mild and natural ingredients in all of J.R.LIGGETT’S Shampoo Bars, you can trust them to help your skin and hair be the best it can be.

Out in the sun a bit too long? It happens to the best of us. Ultraviolet rays can damage your skin even if you’ve just slipped out of the house for a few hours or your sunscreen wore off too soon. That’s when I use J.R.LIGGETT’S Body Oils. I’ve praised the qualities of this for moisture-robbed winter skin, but dry skin isn’t just a cold weather problem.   Each one contains Jojoba Oil, Almond Oil, vitamin E, Grapeseed Oil, Avocado Oil, Aloe Vera, and natural fragrance (Lemon-Lime, Lavender, and White Sage). It does not contain corn oil or olive oil which is not easily absorbed, nor does it contain alcohol which dries the skin. The first thing I noticed when I used the body oil was how quickly my skin absorbed it. It wasn’t slick or slippery, and it really softened my skin, leaving a very pleasant scent. The body oil can also be used on dry hair and scalp.  This is just an all-around terrific multi-use product for the relief of sun damaged skin.

Nanak’s Lip Smoothee Extreme

And in this case, “lip service” is a good thing…  J.R.LIGGETT’S carries his good friend Sananda Nanak’s soothing and moisturizing (SPF 10) lip balms in three luscious flavors: Coconut, Almond, Spearmint, and unscented.  “Nanak’s Lip Smoothee Extreme” is a sunscreen and moisturizer for general weather conditions, containing pure vegetable oils (apricot and canola) Beeswax, Lecithin, Vitamin E, Aloe Vera and flavors. With a SPF factor of 15, they are superior for all outdoor sports, use and activities. For the fascinating story behind Nanak’s Lip Smoothees and Nanak’s Skin Repair an “everything salve” for lips, chapped skin, eye lines, cracked hands, cuticles, and even diaper rash, read here (free offer has expired).

Beat the summer heat and sun the all natural way… with J.R.LIGGETT’S!

Just a “Little Matter” of Water

Much of the Midwest, including my state, is in a drought emergency. Pastures are drying up, the corn is suffering, and there are shortages of water in reservoirs, streams, and wells. The heat saps our energy; I avoid unnecessary sun exposure, bring my flowers into the shade during the hottest part of the day (and bid a sad farewell to those who have “bit the dust”).  I mist our newly planted trees in the evening, and just generally watch the countryside fry and dry up. Even neighborhood birds are staggering around with their beaks wide open and tongues hanging out!  (We refill the bird bath 2 X a day.)

Critters need water too, ya know.

Pleas have been issued locally for the voluntary reduction in water usage, and the kind and gentle folks here reduced consumption from 5 million gallons of water per day down to 4.1 million.  The imposed Water Warning came about due to the city’s residents using more than 4.5 million gallons for five days in a row.  No lawn or outside water usage from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.  Hold off washing the car unless it’s early or late in the day, and please, shorter showers or brief baths! We can do it if we pull together.

Conserving water is a smart thing to do.  You know the drill; don’t leave the water running when you brush your teeth, keep cold drinking water in the fridge so you aren’t running the tap needlessly, and recycle gray water if possible (my own Granny would give her petunias a drink of recycled wash water).  I surprised myself when I mopped up some spilled water and wrung out the rag into a pot of flowers! I patted myself on the back, but at the same moment, it really struck me how serious a fresh water shortage could be–frightening even.

However, I’ve got an “Ace in the Hole”…  a very handy product that solves a lot of water issues– J.R.LIGGETT’S Shampoo Bar.  Multi-tasking and multi-faceted. First off, fantastic for your hair:  just one product–rinses out easilyuses less water–a huge win.  Most folks won’t need a conditioner, so we’re saving on an extra water-wasting step here– use it as a body soap (I do) and shave cream if you wish. One product, one easy rinse, less time in the shower, more water for the rest of the world. I like that very much.

Butterflies drinking moisture

If you’re out hiking and camping, easy access to fresh water can be limited; you’ll need to pack it in along with everything else. No one wants to waste water, packing space, and time. J.R.LIGGETT’S Shampoo Bar fills the bill… biodegradable, no harmful chemicals, easy to transport, super easy to use. Clean up a few dishes, wash out a garment, recycle the gray water–wow, did you save on resources!

Out on the lake, river, ocean… fresh water is a precious commodity– carefully plan your usage and be sure you have J.R.LIGGETT’S Shampoo Bar. Drought is a serious deal; let’s do our part in being a good steward of fresh water.

Out & About: Quick Summer Getaway With The Mini Traveler!

A weekend antiquing and sight-seeing… The Mini Traveler Tags Along!

For those of us who’s ‘globe trotting’ consists of a more tightly encircled sphere… if the ‘circles’ you travel in are closer to home, if your trips are mostly short and sweet… just a brief excursion, a weekend getaway, even for an over night… J.R.LIGGETT’S ‘Mini Traveler’ is the perfect solution for your needs. You might not be headed to Timbuktu, but perhaps a ‘meet the parent’s’ is on the calendar, or that long anticipated visit to that romantic little B&B? (unless you’re like me where most of the Bed & Breakfasts I come across are within the confines of my own home…and I make the bed AND the breakfast!)

Still, I like this sleek, compact, zippered pouch that is designed with ease of use and portability in mind. Even if I’m just packing for a short trip, my mantra is, “less stuff, less fuss, less stress” (I just can’t say it very fast…) The Mini Traveler will arrive on your doorstep packed with 4 mini shampoo bars, .65 ounces each; 2 Original Formula Bars, 1 Tea Tree and Hemp Oil Bar (fragrance free), and 1 Jojoba and Peppermint Bar–more than enough for a weekend or a week, for hair, body and shaving needs. Simple! And that bright ‘grab ya’ color? Not a big deal, not a monumental issue, but why not make something simple also a visual treat?

The ‘Bar Saver’ wafer (included), is specially designed to be attached with water to the bar you plan to use. Just wash with the bar as you normally would, and when it’s time for a replacement, simply attach the wafer to the next Mini Traveler Bar in the same manner. Easy! The ‘Bar Saver’ protects your bar from debris, keeps it from sticking to surfaces, and keeps it sanitary while camping, biking, backpacking or traveling. And since it’s tucked into the Mini Traveler, it’s not going to adhere itself to the rest of your toiletries and make a frightful mess!

The Mini Traveler Refills are a perfect solution for your short-term trip needs around or out-of-town and are intended to be used with the Mini Traveler. Six Mini Traveler Refill Bars are packed inside… 2 Original Formula Bars, 2 Tea Tree & Hemp Oil Bars (fragrance free), and 2 Jojoba & Peppermint Bars–enough to share the goodness with a friend! As a bonus, J.R.LIGGETT’S has added a free, useful, luxuriously soft Face Cloth when you buy the ‘Mini Traveler Refills’, refill bars. It absorbs moisture readily, rinses clean easily and is made of a fabric that is designed to dry quickly– a real asset while traveling. On short trips, I often pack my own lunch, drinks, and snacks; it’s a time-saver, inexpensive and healthy way to go… I stop in a little town for my own private picnic and enjoy my meal under the shade of a park tree… then, I just grab my Mini Traveler and step into a nearby restroom and clean up. Leaves a person refreshed and ready for the rest of their jaunt!

Toss the Mini Traveler in your tote, purse, gym bag, glove compartment, or desk drawer at work. Use for clean up at outdoor events, picnics, even out to restaurants. Clean up little hands and faces or, big hands and faces! A not so fond memory has surfaced here: out to dinner with a toddler, safely ensconced in a high chair (or so we thought), but dangerous nevertheless, spaghetti has been ordered and boy howdy it was not a pretty sight… those little wet wipes won’t do the trick–you’d better beat a path to the restroom with your handy-dandy Mini Traveler and its accompanying Face Cloth and do a quick wash up with a product that is child friendly and SLS-free.

Tuck it in a diaper bag, bike pack, backpack, or lunch tote… anywhere you find a source of water, you’re prepared. Remember, this shampoo bar is not only for your hair, use it for your body, or even an article of clothing for a quick and simple wash. And since all of J.R.LIGGETT’S Shampoo Bars are Sodium Lauryl Sulfate-free, it’s great for all skin types, but especially effective for anyone with dermatological issues or extremely sensitive skin.

My friend Rachel had booked a flight for a long weekend in New Orleans, and what a fiasco that turned out to be, saved only by J.R.LIGGETT’S Mini Traveler. Fortunately she had thought to pack her Mini Traveler and a few toiletries in with her carry-on bag. She’s sitting in coach, crammed next to an overly friendly and chatty person, her arms and elbows glued to her sides, but with a generous amount of space to move her wrists and hands… The drink cart wheels by and Chatty Person purchases a soft drink and somehow manages to shake it a bit before opening… you guessed it, Rachel is now wearing sticky soda spray on her face and neck She grabbed the Mini Traveler and the Face Cloth and headed to the restroom for a quick clean up.

Now, you and I know the airlines rarely lose luggage… but amazingly enough, this happened to Rachel. She arrives in New Orleans literally foot loose and fancy free, as her luggage took a little side trip to Boston. Only the clothes on her back along with a toothbrush, comb and her trusty Mini Traveler. What to do? For someone less adventuresome, this could have spelled disaster, but Rachel, being the roll-with-the-punches lady she is, was not going to let this ruin a fun trip… the Mini Traveler saved the weekend! Of course, she used J.R.LIGGETT’S Shampoo Bar for shampooing, bathing and shaving (no need for the missing conditioner, shower gel, bath soap, shaving cream), but it also did double duty as a light wash for her socks, undergarments and even her T-shirt. At the crack of noon, she rolled out of bed, hit the streets of ‘N’arlins’, and headed for the Cafe Du Monde for some wake-up jazz, cafe au lait and beignets. As for having the same clothes all weekend long?  Well, think about it, do you really need a reason to shop? Especially when you have a good excuse to pick up some cute outfits, shoes, purses, and while you’re at it, why not some jewelry, perfume, make up…

Whatever direction you’re headed (even if your luggage has something else in mind), with the Mini Traveler in hand, you will arrive at your destination in a convenient, cool, casual and practical way. Makes a handy ‘save the day’ super gift for anyone anytime of the year–and you don’t have to conquer the globe to use it!

Going on or longing for a great get-away?  Please pass these tips on to someone you know!

Celebrate America!

I needed a broom. You know the sort… the one with the sturdy, wooden handle, tightly woven natural straw bristles, the hard-working, old-fashioned kind that last and last, the ones that are dependable.

My husband volunteered to pick one up while he was running other errands. I told him what I needed; I showed him my other one, the straw worn down next to nothing, although still somewhat useable and  intact. He came home, so proud of himself for choosing a more modern broom–lightweight plastic handle, plastic bristles, pretty color, and he added, “Less expensive!”

It was time to put the broom to work;  yes it was pretty… it wasn’t what I asked for, wasn’t what I wanted or expected, but we’ll see what she can do… what she’s made of. On the second sweep, the handle broke at the base of the broom.  I had barely used any pressure, and it just snapped in two! Oh sure, it was a ‘light-weight’ alright, and definitely cheap!  I returned the broom to the store, and the saleslady asked, “Do you want to go get another one?” I said, “No! I want something made in America!”

‘Made in America’ has always stood for quality. Sturdy construction. Sound design. Quality parts.  Well-thought out ideas– a ‘Zen’ of thinking from beginning to end. It’s tough to find American made products these days… we have to search them out, make a concentrated effort, but it is soooototally worth it.

Woo-hoo… 30% Discount on each APO order–always!

Take note: J.R.LIGGETT’S Shampoo Bar and products are totally, and lovingly hand-made in America…  J.R. has literally poured his heart and soul into each shampoo bar from the mixing of each formulation specific bar, to the heating, drying, hand cutting, and wrapping.  He uses  the best oils; skin softening  Jojoba, anti-oxidant Rosemary, anti-septic and anti-fungal Lavender, Tea Tree to battle skin infections,  moisturizing Almond oil,  invigorating peppermint oil, Aloe Vera for minor skin irritations, and the list goes on.  The bar contains no SLS (Sodium Laurel  Sulfate, a very harsh, stripping detergent), is not tested on animals, nor contains animal products. Just 100% AWESOME!

Celebrate America by using products made in the USA… J.R.LIGGETT’S Shampoo Bar… even the wrapper is patriotic!

Each Shampoo Bar is so natural, so healthy, so pure (made with fresh, sparkling clean, New Hampshire spring water), so completely bio-degradable from the beginning to the end, that something as good as this–as good for us as this, is fortunately for you and me, Made in America! Frankly, I feel like shouting that out!  We are proud of that!

Lucian Tielens realized the importance of quality when he spoke of  using just about anything within arm’s reach that produced suds to wash his hair… “I’ve run the gamut and used pretty much anything you can think of to wash my hair at one time or another, so I came to appreciate a good quality hair product.”

Shrunken clothing, ripped seams, broken tools, brooms snapped in two… useless, cheap, throw-away items that don’t work, don’t do the job promised, and don’t perform are a waste of my time and money.  J.R.LIGGETT’S Made in America shampoo bar is quality personified. It’s what I reach for while by-passing the 3 for $4 ‘deal’ on the store shelf, because I know this shampoo bar delivers from every angle.  No broken promises, satisfaction guaranteed, and it will definitely sweep you off your feet!

Have a happy and safe July 4th!
