Chill!

Chill!

Life these days seems so overly complicated. We deal with maddening government bureaucracy in the form of endless paperwork and hoops to jump through, lawyers eager and willing to thwart our every move, office politics, and difficult, selfish people bent on complicating life. Technology changes moment by moment, requiring one to constantly be “on” to be able to concentrate and absorb new information .

Our lives move at a fast pace; families and individuals are almost constantly on the move, cramming already over-loaded schedules with yet more obligations, not to mention our “To Do” lists. New inventions and modern conveniences promise to “save us time” yet, with the time saved, we are expected to accomplish more.  We can only be wound so tight, and at some point, we will invariably come apart at the seams–whether it be depression, conflict with others, or even violence. It is no wonder we are stressed from simply trying to get through another day.

It’s time to chill out and cool down. Time to take a deep breath, slow down, and stop and smell the roses or enjoy a scoop of ice cream…  it’s time to clear our head, time to simplify. How is it done? Where do you start? The answer can be as easy as what you hold in your hand… J.R.LIGGETT’S Shampoo Bar. Forget the liquid shampoo, the conditioner, the shaving cream, facial cleanser and yes, even the body lotion. Rest easy— you won’t be needing any of them. Just as de-cluttering your home brings about a sense of peace and calmness, de-cluttering your tub and shower area can have the same effect. I refer to it as a “clearing out of the peripheral to make room for the most important things in life”.

Take a break. A few years back, I cleaned houses for a bit of extra income and one of the most frustrating duties I experienced was to clean the bathroom of a beauty salon owner. Talk about a tangled mess of hair care products! The time I “spent” maneuvering around those containers, the owner could have saved herself a handful of money if all I had to grab was J.R.LIGGETT’S Shampoo Bar. When I think of how this shampoo bar performs in so many ways, I realize that truly, simple is better ! And “change” can be more than a paradigm shift in thinking, or encompass more than substituting one product for another–it can also be what makes that jingling sound in your pocket–or those green backs tucked safely away in your wallet.

Did you know that “simple” and “less” frees us up physically and mentally? We have less stress, less to think about, look at, walk around, to take up space, to clean, and possibly less to do. A good mental and physical “house cleaning” helps one to move on, make new choices, see new possibilities, and re-define our priorities. Often times possessions and habits hold us back in a certain period of time or a certain way of acting or viewing life. But sometimes you’ve just gotta bust loose and make a change— fresh starts weren’t just meant for New Year’s Eve! An uncluttered life allows us to focus on priorities, gives us direction, clarity and a discovery of a daily sense of joy!

I’m also a huge fan of organizing, and wow, do I love the look of those stacks of J.R.LIGGETT’S Shampoo Bars! Opening my storage area, I see those clean, white, wrapped bars… of course, you don’t have to be as obsessive as I am and have the labels facing a certain direction– I’ll cut you some slack there– but my point is, no more round shampoo bottles, conditioner bottles, shave cream containers… just Shampoo Bars; Ultra-Balanced for all hair types (see? I told you I was big on making things simple!), and a nice variety of the Original, Herbal, Tea Tree, Damaged, and Jojoba & Peppermint formulas. Another fun thing is my cool looking apothecary jar filled to the brim with J.R.LIGGETT’S Mini Shampoo Bars… a smart, practical, and luxurious treat for guests who may still be in the dark as to the awesome goodness of J.R.LIGGETT’S products. I know, hard to imagine, but I am on a mission here…

And to keep this simple theme going, forget body lotions, facial moisturizers–the whole gamut… seriously! After you’ve experienced J.R.LIGGETT’S Foam Face & Body Washes; Unscented, Lemon & Lime, White Sage, and Western Slope, you won’t need extra moisturizers. Such a wonderful feeling… the soft foam gliding over your body… The Foam Face & Body Washes are 100% non-detergent, and for your safety, J.R. uses only natural scents derived from pure essential oils and natural fragrances.

Tuck the handy-dandy 1.5 ounce Body Wash in your purse or travel bag, and place the 7 ounce in your bathroom. Have the 16 ounce refill on hand, and when that is empty, send it to J.R.LIGGETT’S and they’ll refill it for only $16–and that includes the cost of shipping! Just keep a few 7 ounce bottles on hand for around the house (not only bathrooms, but great for a healthy liquid hand soap at the sink) and stash the 16 ounce next to your shampoo bar stack. Girl, you are so prepared… I love that feeling of security and knowing I won’t be caught empty-handed.

A little heads-up here… don’t feel as if J.R.LIGGETT’S Shave Foam is just for men… that is simply not the case. Your skin will be smooth, moisturized, silky, and very touchable… caress-able … you get the idea…what are you waiting for?

The point I am trying to make, is “multi-tasking”. You can replace so many main stream over-priced and over-promoted skin care and hair care products with just a couple of J.R.LIGGETT’S. No need whatsoever to over-buy nor, over think. Just a few items equals a great value.

The ancient Greek philosopher Socrates believed that if one was truly wise, he would not be obsessed with possessions, however, he loved to visit the marketplace to admire it’s abundance of wares. When a friend asked why he felt so drawn to this display of provisions, he replied, “I love to go there and discover how many things I am perfectly happy without.”

We may be a time slave to many things in our lives, but using a plethora of products for cleanliness need not be one of them. Simplicity. Value. Peace of mind. The “quiet time” of a bath. Life and balance. This is where J.R.LIGGETT’S Shampoo Bars and products come into play. What else could a person possibly need?

Find out for yourself what you can be perfectly happy without!

Out for a Joy Ride: J.R.’s Foam Face & Body Wash

How can a girl get so lucky? “Research in the name of science”, J.R. said. “Take our Foam Face & Body Wash for a test drive and report your findings to our panel…” Now this is the kind of work I like!

Shake it up! Out pours a luxurious foam, softly scented and so sublime, an absolute delight to use… moisturizing, invigorating, an utterly enticing experience! J.R.LIGGETT’S Foam Face & Body Wash gently cleanses leaving a healing layer of unique oils that are readily absorbed. It left my skin healthy, soft to the touch, and smelling simply wonderful… a true delight for my senses!

Quickly, I excitedly realized that there was much more to this product than first glance would reveal… it’s not just a face and body wash, although it fits the bill perfectly; created with saponified olive oil, coconut oil, castor oil with safflower oil, almond oil, hemp or jojoba oil and Vitamin E. It does not contain any harsh, detrimental detergents whatsoever to harm or dry out your skin, and upon further investigation, I discovered that this product is a natural for shaving… a little goes a long way! It goes on smooth and gentle, rinses off completely, and moisturizes skin to perfection, resulting in a terrific shaving experience. And will wonders never cease? It’s also an extremely effective facial cleanser and make-up remover. The Foam Face & Body Wash is true to its name–for complete body use!

However, at this point, I became a bit serious–it does happen once in a while… We know J.R.LIGGETT’S products are known for their economy and value, but having personally learned about, held in my own hands, and used J.R.’s products, I have become firmly convinced of another key attribute; the superior quality of the ingredients. For our personal health and safety, only natural scents derived from pure essential oils and natural fragrances are used. Factor in the aforementioned economy and value (one product’s multi-tasking abilities– thus saving us a hefty chunk of change), and you hold in your hands not only an all-encompassing, exceptionally made, well thought out product, but one made with integrity… a precious commodity that we don’t always see a lot of today– a ‘walking of the talk’, if you will. ‘Our Total Commitment To Your Body’ is not just an idle promise.

Several appealing scents are available to choose from…
Lemon-lime; a light citrus smell, a most refreshing and cool, clean scent that invigorates yet calms and relaxes.
White Sage; delightfully masculine, not flowery or heavy and overpowering, a nice, clean scent. It’s just right…
Western Slope; truly original, 100% distinctive, intriguing and mysterious, romantic and pure, it’s Native American in origin.
Unscented; for people with allergic reactions, chemical sensitivities, or to use with Aroma Therapy.

and several convenient sizes…

  • 1.5 ounce Travel Size foamer that is terrific for traveling;   tuck it in your purse, overnight bag, etc.
  • 7 ounce that’s designed for your bathroom sink or shower, but don’t be shy…set this next to the kitchen sink to take full advantage of the necessity of frequent hand washing.
  • 16 ounce refill to promote a reusable and recyclable alternative to a disposable oriented world.

Bottom line here… toss out that harsh old skin-drying bar soap and replace it with something that actually moisturizes and multi-tasks!  Anywhere you need to wash up, it’s perfect for keeping your hands clean, soft and mildly scented–or unscented! You choose!   And those new labels… wow, I don’t know about you, but I like having attractive containers for all the world to see… I’m just that way–makes me feel special and presents an appealing face for my home.

Well J.R., I stepped up to the plate, did the research and completed the task at hand… it was a tough job, but I’m glad I was able to do it! I’ve returned from my test drive arriving home safely, healthy, happy, satisfied, and with money to spare!

Give Generously… Keep It Golden

“I have found that unselfishness pays because it tends to engender unselfishness.”  J.C. Penny

Have you ever known someone who holds onto what they have so tightly, that they not only squeeze all the hope and life out of their existence, but their sourness seeps into every corner and spreads to unsuspecting folk?  Lately, I’ve been thinking about the heaping helping of generosity that I’ve experienced in my life and what I’ve learned from it.

Having moved recently, I have been on the receiving end of many hours of help from family and friends of family. People have dropped what they were doing, changed plans, or made plans to take time out of their busy days to haul belongings into our house. I’ve been overwhelmed with people who have cared enough to do something for me. I’ve thought, aren’t friends just about the most wonderful “things” on earth? Aren’t they the absolute best?   They’re the ones who hang out with you because they want to be around you, not because they have to.  They overlook your flaws and  put up with your idiosyncracies… they are generous in spirit.

I once worked at an antique and consignment shop and made a huge sales blunder. I happened to sell an item for much less than it actually cost–I looked up the price, but evidently misread, and let the item go for about 1/8 of what it should have been. I felt miserably dumb and remorseful, and told the owner I’d make up the difference. After partial payment (I couldn’t afford the entire amount at once), she returned my money and said she couldn’t take it–that’s generosity and incredible kindness.

Years ago, during an emotionally vulnerable time in my life, my best friend came through for me in a touching way. In the bleakness of winter, she treated me to a much-needed week-long California vacation, and during our visit, she paid for all my meals. Friends like that don’t come along every day.

A former boss took me under her wing and taught me so much about sales and customer skills. She encouraged me and praised me at a time when no one else thought I was very special–a generous soul.

I’ve been the recipient of much generosity from J.R.LIGGETT… and I’ve read of instances when he’s been generous to others–but I think he keeps kinda quiet about it– a humble generosity.

My point?  Pretty much it’s do unto others as you’d have them do unto you.  Keep it “golden”–let your light shine. What goes around does come around.  Don’t hang on to what you have or know if an opportunity arises to bless someone else. Don’t go through life with an iron-clad grip on your gifts and drain the joy out of the world. When you feel that little twinge of selfishness twisting your spirit, that’s your clue:  be extra generous. It will come back to you in such special, surprising ways… and keep it going. Here’s to brighter days… share what you love, even if it’s just your discovery of a terrific shampoo bar… J.R.LIGGETT’S Shampoo Bar.  😉

(Almost) Taken In By A Pretty Face

Tempted by face:  Standing in the store aisle, I had several items in my shopping cart, and here before me was the Great Temptation… all shapes and sizes of containers; some with simple flip top caps, some with innovative pumps and spouts.  Luscious, mouth-watering colors and drawings of fruit, labels that drew me in with bright, trendy fonts just daring me to reach out and touch… and I did.

I was low on shampoo. Just two bars of J.R. LIGGETT’S shampoo bars on hand–well, actually, one and a half, but I’m the kind of person who likes to keep inventory up and the stock was getting low. I was shopping for other items I needed, and I thought, maybe, just maybe I’d see if these shelves held any promise for me. Perhaps there really was something out there that was comparable to J.R.’s product, or maybe even something that could substitute for it or at least be close to what I’ve been using and raving about for the past 2+ years.

I couldn’t believe the selection!  Did I have wimpy hair? Hair that couldn’t stand up to the job at hand–hair that simply “couldn’t cut the mustard”? There was a shampoo for that.  Dry hair? Colored hair? Permed, damaged hair?  Blonde hair? Gray hair? Ethnic hair?  Then the conditioners: Moisturizes. Protects natural curls. Gives hair strength and shine.  Finds you a rich husband.  Gives you boundless joy, energy and money for the rest of your life…  Just grab a bottle, toss it in the cart, and your worries are over–or so they’d like us to think.

Were any of these choices SLS-free? From the 30 or so brands on the shelves, I found one lonely SLS-free brand.  Was this my answer?  I turn over the container to get a closer look at the ingredients. True, it’s Sodium Lauryl Sulfate free, but what’s this?  A lengthy list of unpronounceable chemicals–definitely not what I had in mind!  J.R.LIGGETT’S Shampoo Bar is made with pure New Hampshire spring water, and edible vegetable oils. No synthetic oils, no animal products, no chemical concoctions, and no detergents.  This shampoo  does not strip all the natural oils from your hair (as detergents do) so most people don’t even require a conditioner!

Okay, what about a “price check”?  Quickly scanning the shelves, some shampoos cost more than a visit to the hairdresser–but what does that price reflect? Packaging? Advertising?  Smoke and mirrors?  Some cost so little you knew they were suspect.  A few were priced the same as J.R.LIGGETT’S Shampoo Bar, but contained well under 24 ounces–each of J.R.LIGGETT’S 3.5 ounce shampoo bar is approximately equal to a 24 ounce bottle of liquid shampoo.

But here’s the kicker, here’s what made me laugh: I asked myself, would I use any of these shampoos to wash my face? My body? My child? Would I use any of these enticing packaged liquid shampoos to shave with? Wash out a garment? Pack for a camping trip, hiking, bicycling, boating, or plane ride?  Are any of the labels and packaging biodegradable?  Nada. Zip. None.

My little moment of confusion and indecision instantly cleared up. I realized that really, there was no contest here, J.R.’s shampoo bar was the only choice.  There could be nothing more simple, more smart of a choice than that full 3.5 ounce pack-a-wallop bar of shampoo.  100%, handmade in the USA, convenient, multi-tasking, bio-degradable, no plastic for the landfill, no petroleum-based detergents, great for all hair types, easy to handle, easy to pack and use. The label design doesn’t change every time you turn around–so whether you find J.R.LIGGETT’S on the shelf at Whole Foods Stores, your friendly neighborhood health store, or simply anticipate that recognizable red, white and black design on http://www.jrliggett.com/,  it’s easy to spot and grab.  It’s a no-brainer–a simple choice–no more wondering if  the grass is greener on the other side of the fence. This is the real deal.

I pushed the cart away and headed for check-out. I had the answer all along;  J.R.LIGGETT’S Shampoo Bar. The best shampoo you’ll ever use… and I’m buying it!
